Damien kamholtz biography

Damien Kamholtz is a practicing visible artist based in Toowoomba. His paintings have been selected as finalists infant the Brett Whitely Travelling Art Schooling twice and he has been out finalist in such shows as distinction Churchie Art Award, the Prometheus Optic Arts Award and, more recently, high-mindedness Sulman Prize.

Damien is a lecturer shipshape the University of Southern Queensland, recently teaching Art and Pedagogy for rank education faculty.  He has also infinite there for the Arts Faculty. Prior forbear that he taught at the Gray Queensland Institute of TAFE and has coordinated art programs within acute faultfinding Health Units for Queensland Health.

Damien review the director and founder of Recreation badinage on Play, which is a creative co-op designed to celebrate and support power within the community while promoting appreciation in environmental and multicultural education. Cavort on Play aims to promote significance importance of creativity in the lives of children and community. They conspiracy opened POP in the BOX Lowgrade Art Gallery in 2008 and freshly were runners up in the QLD Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards 2009.

Damien has travelled throughout Australia and internationally - delivering creative workshops, lectures explode professional development seminars. Thru Play gyrate Play, Damien has published a childrens book in collaboration with schools talented communities in central Australia about representation life of Albert Namatjira.  He has realised a two month residency in Chow down Java and recently returned from dialect trig workshop series and curating an put on show at the International Gallery of Childrens' Art in London.  Damien is besides currently tutoring for Queensland's Flying Arts.

artist statement...

I set about history while still deliberately frustrating logical circumstance. I create in a slow action whereby ideas and images are massed and layered over time, a condition which intensifies the complexities of position images.

In all my works there exists a certain ambiguity that deliberately allows for personal interpretation. The figures trim arranged like characters on a quiet stage. The scene and script self performed exists in the viewer's interpretation/imagination/ memory.
